theguide.lgbt Inc is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization started here in Madison, WI. We are relatively new and still growing but can grow even faster with help from our community. As an online resource, our three areas of focus are publishing Coming Out stories, local resource listings, and guides (how-to's on various subjects.) Overall, by providing these resources, we hope to help reduce self-harm by getting information into the hands of those who need it.

How can you help?

Stories:
The easiest way is to submit your coming out story! We can't stress it enough, but literally every story is worth sharing. We often hear that "my story wasn't much fanfare" or "my story is very traumatic." We surely understand that a traumatic coming out experience may be hard to write about, but if the story teller is able to write it out it helps in more than one way. It can be therapeutic to write it out and put your experience to words but it also shares with others around the world what it was like and how you overcame. There are so many people in the world who might be in a very similar situation and need to know that they can make it through. On the flip side, stories that "don't have much fanfare" are also important because they show that sometimes it really can be that easy.

Resources:
If you or someone you know works for an LGBT* resource, submit the resource to us so we can publish it in our repository. Our resource listing helps people who find our page find resources that are local to them. Our non-profit works online only, and sometimes people would rather go somewhere in-person or that is unique to their region.

Guides:
If you're feeling really motivated you could also submit a guide to us. Our guides are used by anyone and everyone. A great example of this is for educators who may reach out to us asking for how they can help a student who just came out. Or a parent looking for guidance on how to help their transgender child with transitioning.

Our guides are still being worked on, but if you are someone who feels passionately about helping others and have a knack for writing, we could really use your help.

Donations:
Our operation is very small and anyone who is willing can make a donation to us through Facebook. Facebook donations are the easiest way to donate electronically and allow us to collect 100% of the donated amount. Facebook, unlike other platforms for non-profits, does not take any portion of the donation. We are also registered on AmazonSmile and our mailing address can be used to send physical checks.
